Keeping art at the heart of our community

Louise Herdman

Louise Herdman’s love for mosaics began in 2002 and the fascination continues. She started by using a variety of materials in her mosaics for contrast, texture and to catch the light in different ways. In 2005 she began including stained glass and glass tiles, introducing beautiful colours, texture and varying reflections. Today Louise continues to explore and develop her own style of mosaic art.

Louise is now known throughout New Zealand and sales of her work have gone international. She enjoys making mosaics to commission and has designed and created a range from small memory mosaics, splashbacks, sculptured wall mirrors to large garden wall panels.

She discovered a love for teaching mosaics in 2006 and in 2008 opened her own teaching studio in central Whanganui. The reward for encouraging people to mosaic in their own way shows in the variety of stunning mosaics created during her classes and workshops. Louise has also designed a number of mosaics that have been created with students and mosaic colleagues for Whanganui Hospice.

Currently Louise runs three to four sessions a week in the afternoon, evening and most Saturdays as well as regular project workshops on weekends. She is very happy to arrange a custom workshop to meet the requirements of your particular group and also provides one-to-one tuition.

Once you have completed your Intro to Mosaics you are welcome to join casual sessions to work on your own projects. There are prepared bases “ready to mosaic” and a variety of tiles for sale.

“Be inspired to mosaic in your own way,” is the catchphrase at her studio.
